But as equipment requirements in manufacturing facilities and distribution centers have advanced past the basics, even the conveyor has gone from simply a belt, some rollers, and some rails to a high tech piece of equipment that can talk to the user by way of integrated automation systems. 	Operations: Conveyors keep moving forward By Jessica Jacobsen Similar to the products that are shuttled across its rollers and belts, conveyor systems are working to stay on top of the trends in material handling in order tobetter serve its clientele. According to the "February 2012 Statistics" report from the Conveyor Equipment Manufacturers Association (CEMA), Naples, Fla., booked orders for the month were up 24.8 percent compared to February 2011. read more

Gregg Goodner told attendees at Hytrol's executive summit and sales meeting in Little Rock, Ark., that the company has experienced "steady growth" over the past two years despite still-challenging economic conditions. read more

He attributed this to his company's attention to lean practices and eliminating non-value added work. He acknowledged that going to a lean philosophy came with a painful four-year learning curve, "but if we're not growing we're not surviving," he reasoned. read more

	Where Have All The Distributors Gone? End-users no longer expect their material handling providers to simply peddle a piece of equipment. They demand solutions, and they are becoming more wary of dealing with multiple suppliers to meet their needs. Instead of dealing with one company for a palletizer, another company for an AS/RS and then a third for conveyors, end-users today want the security of an integrated system provided by a single source. Therefore, the customer is the one driving the shift toward using integrators rather than distributors. read more
