Hytrol announces the 2010 winners of the Hytrol Challenge at the University of Arkansas' Engineering Department. Mack Palmer, Hytrol's Training Coordinator, recently attended the Awards Banquet to present this year's winners. They are: Mattie Bookhout, Prabuddha Lohani, Elizabeth McCallion and Cameron Ramoly.
The Hytrol / University of Arkansas relationship developed over ten years ago. Hytrol has been an active part of the Industrial Engineering classes at the University of Arkansas working first with Dr. Thomas Landers and then Dr. Earnest Fant. Not only has Hytrol provided a small conveyor system for the school's IE lab, but has also provided an award for the winning solution to a material handling problem given the class. Named The Hytrol Challenge Award, the honor has usually been bestowed on one male and one female student who provide that solution each semester. The new professor for the course, Dr. Russell Meller, set up teams of four and had them work on the solution to the hypothetical customer's problem. Hytrol's involvement is furnishing and awarding the plaques to the winning students. Hytrol always provides at least one Challenge Award per year, but the course is occasionally offered both spring and fall semesters. In addition to providing and presenting the award, Hytrol personnel (usually Project Managers) occasionally give lectures to these classes on warehouse/material handling systems design.
