Each year, Hytrol honors the top distributors  of the past year with a special awards ceremony.  Special plaques are normally given to representatives of each company, however, this year a new “Hytrol Oval” special award was presented.  This new award was designed and manufactured at Hytrol.  Everything except the engraving was crafted by Hytrol employees.

Hytrol sincerely appreciates the efforts put forth by each firm in the distributor network.  The Hytrol Family extends our congratulations to each company who won their respective Top Six award, Groups One, Two, and Three, and the Top International Distributor.

Conveyor of the Month

Incline/decline conveyors are almost a necessity in multi-level systems. Alternatives include gravity conveyor, spirals and chutes, but these are only adequate when the product is moving down.  They also do not generally provide a smooth flow of goods.  Powered incline conveyors such as the Hytrol Model RBI (roller bed) and SBI (slider bed) are excellent for transporting a wide range of products, either up or down.  The adjustable double nose-over provides a smooth transfer from the incline to horizontal plane.  The conveyor is easily adjustable for angles up to 30 degrees.  If needed, the conveyor can also be used as a “booster” in gravity flow systems.

Application Information

Skatewheel Application

One of the simplest methods ever devised for conveying goods is undoubtedly the SKATEWHEEL conveyor.  The skatewheel conveyor can be used in either temporary or permanent installations.  They are lightweight and can be moved about when needed.

Skatewheel conveyors have several advantages over roller conveyors.  They require less pitch to convey the product in a decline situation.  Lightweight loads and even empty cartons are moved easily on the skatewheel conveyor because it takes less force to start several wheels in motion than a gravity roller.

Another decided advantage over straight roller conveyor is the natural differential action of skatewheel conveyors.  The product being conveyed maintains orientation while moving on the skatewheel conveyor.  This is especially desirable if the product moves around a curved section.  As the load negotiates the curve, the skatewheels provide this differential action just as a tapered roller curve.

There are, however, certain limitations to consider when contemplating using skatewheel conveyors in an operation.  Items such as drums, pails, and products with uneven or irregular bottoms will not convey well on skatewheel units.  For best results, the load should have a smooth, solid and flat surface.

The skatewheel conveyor uses a plain ball bearing and should only be used in clean dry environments free of dust and moisture.

The size of the product conveyed will also be a factor when choosing skatewheel over roller conveyor.  There should be three (3) axles and seven (10) wheels under the product bottom at all times.

Skatewheel capacity is also a factor when considering this type of conveyor.  Skatewheel is generally used in light duty installations.  Wheel capacities for steel and aluminum frames are listed in the Hytrol General Catalog and should be consulted before specifying skatewheel.

The wheels used in skatewheel conveyors extend above the conveyor frame to permit loads to overhang the unit but it is a good idea not to allow the width of the load to exceed the conveyor width by more than 25%.

Hytrol offers skatewheel conveyor in straight and curved sections as well as spurs and extendible (flexible) units.

On Saturday, March 2, 2002, a heart attack took the life of Pete Hinson, Vice-President of Distributor Operations.  Pete was well known and loved by the Hytrol Family and all who knew him.  He was totally dedicated to Hytrol and the distributor network.  Pete came to work here in 1972 and his contributions to Hytrol were many.  We extend our sympathies to his  mother, Dorothy, wife Suzanne, and daughter, Amy.  Pete will be greatly missed by all of us.
