Small
item Sorter |
|
|
HOW "SPECIAL" IS USED:
This "special" is used as a dot.com order sorter
in a business to consumer processing application. An ASAP
information system handles web site and third party order
management and presorts orders to be wave picked. The small
item sorter then sorts the items to customer orders.
HOW PRODUCT IS CYCLED THROUGH THE
UNIT:
Wave picked order items are individually scanned by one
of three induction operators and placed on sorter. Gapping
and proper placement of items is the induction operator’s
responsibility. Items are sorted to bins. Push buttons and
lights at each bin provide order completion information
between operator and sorter control unit. |

|
 |
UNUSUAL SPECIFICATIONS:
• 140 items per minute
• Speed of the unit is 120 FPM
• 145 divert locations
• PC based sortation controls
• Unsortable items are married with orders that have been
sorted by ASAP SMAART CART technology.
OTHER INTERESTING FACTS:
A two-phase sortation algorithm is utilized where a
large
wave is divided into smaller 150 order waves. Smaller waves
are reinducted after completion of presort.

Model
RB
 |
Another
very versatile model in Hytrol’s
product line is the Model RB. The
RB is both a BELT conveyor and a
ROLLER conveyor. Its belt rides on
the roller bed. This roller bed design reduces
friction and provides greater capacity.
Applications include assembly, inspection, and
packing operations. The unit is often used in an
incline application as shown in the photo at
right. The Model RB is available in many sizes
ranging from 16 in. OAW (overall width) to 54 in.
OAW. Overall lengths supplied are from 12 ft. to
102 ft. The bed is supplied with 1.9 in. dia.
rollers. The conveyor is reversible and is
supplied with a standard center drive. Optional
equipment includes a variety of belts, an end or
low-elevation side mounted drive, guard rails,
poly-tier supports, ceiling hangers, electrical
controls, etc. |

One of the feature stories in this issue was the
return and restoration of "Ol’ Number
One," the first conveyor built by Tom Loberg,
founder of Hytrol.
• A report on the "Stockyard Expansion
Progress" stated that "--an additional
30,000 sq. ft. of floor space was being added to the
St. Louis Stockyard to make room for more conveyors
available for 24-hour shipment." |

Visitors featured in that issue included Bill
Whitcroft (The Babush Corp.) and Larry Abernathy
(Advanced Equipment Company).
• System (Advanced) Sales
Schools #3 and #4 were both featured in the May,
1976, issue of the Hi-lites. Some of the alumni in
the classes were Charlie Ensminger (IBT, Inc.), Tony
Stewart and Jim McCorkle (Advanced Equip. Co.), and
Warren Gandall (then of Eagle Material Handling). |
